Last week—or was it TWO weeks ago already?—we went to California to go sailing up the coast with my sister's family.
The weather was glorious, and I was all set with my prescription anti-seasickness patch. This is the same prescription I used without incident when we went to Hawaii several years ago. (And it probably would have actually prevented seasickness, too, had I remembered to change the patch, as directed, the morning we set off on our whale-watching cruise.)
But alas, I did not set foot on the sailboat. This time around, the patch caused my right pupil to dilate all the way while my left pupil remained teeny tiny—in true Marilyn Manson fashion. My family members were duly alarmed, but calls to the pharmacist and my eye doctor reassured us that I just needed to wait a bit longer and they'd BOTH dilate to the size of peanut M&M's.
As I wandered around the house for six hours with wonky vision, a cloudy head, and instructions not to operate heavy machinery or motor vehicles of any kind, a question occurred to me: am I doing this to myself because I am embarking on a necessary sea voyage?
No.
This is for recreation. And who wants to "recreate" when they can't see or think straight; feel desperate for a nap; and let's face it, are probably nauseated too? So, no sailing for me. My sister and I spent the day painting pottery and shopping with her baby and adorable toddler. And we met the boys at the pier for dinner, which was close enough to the ocean for me.
But Travis got some great pictures!
Check out more of Trav's pictures here.
And speaking of being out and about, I'm guest blogging with my pal Kelly Jeppson over at Write.Click.Scrapbook. all week long! Please come over and say hi. All the action will be happening over there this week, since I'm a one-blog-at-a-time kind of gal. But I'll be back here with bells on by June 21. See you then! (With my properly and proportionally dilated eyes, of course...)
Here's one teeny tiny preview of the fun in store for you at Write.Click.Scrapbook. Do stop by!
