In a fine display of humor, my boys got me a Snuggie: The Blanket with Sleeves for Christmas. And a leopard-print Snuggie, no less. I could barely contain my glee!
I do have to admit, it is quite warm. Jeremy, who just hit 6 ft. 2 in. in height, looks like a young Gandalf whenever he puts it on. I just look like an idiot. And I still fail to see how it's superior to a regular blanket. Now if it had built-in gloves, then we'd be talking. My fingers often get cold when I read, but I don't have too much trouble keeping my forearms toasty. (Does anyone?)
The day after Christmas, Travis even tricked me into wearing my fashionable new garment. I was lying on the couch, minding my own business, watching the rest of Little Dorrit, subtitled in Chinese, on some sketchy Chinese website (because I couldn't wait for the last eight episodes to arrive in the mail via Netflix later that day), when Travis walked into the room holding something behind his back. He instructed me to stand up, close my eyes, and hold out my arms. "Another present?" I thought to myself, when a Snuggie was slipped onto my unsuspecting arms. And then he took my picture against my will.
I suppose it serves me right for posting this. At least I didn't get a bacon scarf.
But that's not the best part!
Want to see what else I got? (Well, it's for all of us.)
This is Jovie. She's an Olde English Bulldogge. 9 weeks old. Adorable. I hope she looks a little something like this when she grows up. Chances are good.
Oh. My. Gosh. Are you kidding me? The three of us picked her out as a family. It took us over an hour to decide between this little firecracker and her big, fat brother who was twice as big and almost as cute.
Jovie has already been visited by all four of her grandparents. What? A replacement baby/grandbaby? Noooo....
She is fascinated by whatever she imagines is up those stairs. It's only a matter of time before she can scale them all by herself. As luck would have it, Jovie not only blends in to the tile on the kitchen floor, she is also completely camouflaged whenever she gets near the Snuggie. (All the more reason not to use Snuggie as "an attractive throw" on the sofa.)
In case you're wondering, she was named after Buddy's girlfriend from Elf. The name is cute and jolly, just like our puppy, and my husband has a crush on the Zooey Deschanel character. (I think he's entitled to his little infatuation, after what I posted last Tuesday.) Our feelings for Jovie the dog have already progressed far beyond infatuation, past puppy love, and almost to outright obsession. But we will continue to draw the line at holding birthday parties for our dogs.
Other names we were considering:
Olive
Vixen
Mabel
Pepper
Cora
Fiona
You don't need to tell us if you think we made the wrong name choice. It took us three days to name her, and when Jeremy and Travis blurted "Jovie!" at almost the same moment, we knew it was the name we were waiting for.
We're pretty sure Ruby would approve. She always loved the little dogs best.
What did you get for Christmas?
:-)
Lucas out.
