A couple of weeks ago, I received the most generous, beautiful, and thoughtful gift in the mail. Every time I think about this gift, or peek inside the cover, the waterworks begin all over again.
I was on a 4-hour business-development video conference with Lain Ehmann, and during a quick potty break, the UPS man arrived with a box from Boston. I opened it and was simply blown away. The timing was so perfect. I was able to thank my dear friend Lain "in person" for masterminding this incredible outpouring of friendship. This is what was inside:
A note inside the cover read:
"My little dog—a heartbeat at my feet." ~Edith Wharton
Dear Angie:
We know that nothing we can say or do will make losing Ruby any easier for you. She was a much-loved part of your family, and those kinds of holes don't fill from a kind word or hug. They go on aching and hurting for a long time.
But we couldn't let this period in your life go by without letting you know that we are thinking of you and hurting on your behalf. We hope that someday, you'll be able to record some memories of Ruby in this scrapbook and feel a little closer to her.
We love you,
Monica

My silence on this subject since I received the album is not indicative of indifference, but of the depth of my feelings. I feel so loved. I have the most amazing (and talented!) friends. And now I have 17 opportunities to preserve memories of Ruby, who is greatly missed every single day. Thank you.
p.s. I cranked out some very simple thank you cards finally today. Better late than never, right?
