It's surprisingly satisfying. Trav and I go out and visit our garden almost every evening. "Hey, have you seen how big the butternut squash grew overnight? Look at our cute little tomatoes!"
My parents, who are master gardeners, pop over any time they're in the area to "see how the garden is doing." It's almost like they're visiting a whole host of multi-colored, inert grandchildren. They're so proud.
I have more green onions than I'll ever be able to eat, and you should have seen the explosion of beans that happened while I was in Orlando contracting the swine flu—I've harvested twice since then! I plan to blanch and freeze these piles of beans so we can enjoy them all winter long.
And just wait until you see my pumpkins. They're quite green still, but they're growing larger every day.
In the meantime, we produced our very first eggplant, and it's so pretty I just want to hug and caress it. But does anyone have any idea how to cook one of these? I tried once and failed miserably. If you've had better luck with eggplant, please share your recipe!
Now for a quote:
"Weather
means more when you have a garden. There's nothing like listening to a
shower and thinking how it is soaking in around your green beans."
