Handmade cards and man food = the only way to celebrate Father's Day!
Using scraps from my stash, I made two Father's Day cards, one for dear old dad and one for dear old dad-in-law. Here's how:
- Choose three large scraps of patterned paper in coordinating colors. (Think of them as pp#1, pp#2, and pp#3.)
- Out of pp #1, hand-cut one heart large enough to fill the front of your card.
- Lay this first large heart over pp#2, and use it as a guide for trimming a second large heart.
- Out of another scrap of pp#2, hand cut one medium-sized heart. Then use it as a guide for trimming a second medium-sized heart out of pp#3
- You're an intelligent individual, so I'm sure you get the picture by now. Trim two small hearts, one out of pp#3 and a second out of pp#1.
- Layer opposing patterns of hearts together (one large, one med, one small) and adhere.
- Trim each layered heart in quarters.
- Reassemble opposite pieces to form two patchwork hearts and adhere to the fronts of your cards.
- Add sentiments using letter stickers and stamps.
My mom jokingly took exception to the phrase, "The best pieces of me...came from you." I just told her I didn't have enough letter stickers to spell "some of the best pieces..." or "one or two of the best pieces...," otherwise I totally would have. And I added that she's welcome to edit the front of the card herself if she wishes, and I reminded her that her Mother's Day card said, "Lots of LOVE to My FAVORITE Parent (No Offense to Dad)."
Then, for the father of my stepson, my fur baby, and any future offspring, I prepared two man-ariffic, cholesterol-clogging meals. For breakfast, biscuits with sausage gravy, plus butter and jam for the extra biscuits. And bacon grease to drink. (Just kidding!)
For dinner, homemade Dutch-oven beef stew, a manly meal if there ever was one.
Hope you had a happy dad's day!
